knutt keeps track of when each certificate expires, which work is due and who is on board. Built for associations and foundations that keep traditional ships sailing, and also useful on commercial vessels, yachts and refit projects.

What knutt does

Recurring work by calendar, with procedures, checklists and a fixed sequence.

Certificates and surveys

Every certificate sits on a timeline with its expiry date and survey window. When a renewal is due, the overview shows it.

Deficiencies from a survey become tasks with their deficiency number and stay open until they are rectified. For the authority and the classification society there are the certificate register, dossier and compliance report as PDF.

Maintenance and yard periods

Recurring maintenance is a schedule by calendar. knutt creates the tasks in good time, with the procedure, the checklist and the sequence to follow.

During a yard period, the plan shows day by day what is due, who is on site and what is left undone. Every component keeps its inspection dates, its maintenance history and its spare parts stock.

Crew and voyages

For every voyage, knutt checks the assigned crew against the required positions and certificates, and shows where someone is still missing.

People accept or decline voyages and work days themselves, even without an account of their own. The fact sheet with the crew list comes as PDF.

With one click in the settings, you download a ship's pages and documents to your device and keep working without a connection.

Built on board

knutt was built at Windsbraut e.V. and has been part of the association's daily routine there since 2026: from the safety certificate to the winter work to the crew for the next voyage.

Operations and data

Your own instance
Your association or shipping company gets its own installation with its own database, on servers in Germany. We install the updates.
Open source
knutt is licensed under the AGPLv3. The software and the data stay yours, even if we stop. You pay for operation, updates and support. Source code
Updates with a lead time
New versions run on the demo before we install them on yours.
Desktop edition
For one person, entirely on your own computer and without internet. For macOS (Apple silicon) and Linux, on request.

Non-profit means recognised as gemeinnützig by the German tax office. Length means length overall. Setup, data entry, customisation and support for self-hosted installations by quote, at €65 per hour. Under the small business scheme (§ 19 UStG), no VAT applies.
